Vernon roads, lanes, undergoing closures

Number of main Vernon roads undergoing upgrade work this week

A number of roads in the City of Vernon, including a portion of 39th Avenue, will be undergoing upgrade work this week.

Fall is turning into a busy season for road upgrades and improvements in the City of Vernon.

Motorists heading along 39th Avenue and 33rd Street could experience minor travel delays this week as crews repair utitlity services.

Starting as early as 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25,  the westbound lanes of 39th Avenue between 33rd Street and Highway 97 will be closed to through traffic. A portion of 33rd Street north of 39th Avenue will also be closed.

Motorists travelling along 39th Avenue and 33rd Street next week may experience minor travel delays, while crews repair utility services.

Local traffic will still be able to access businesses and residences in the area.

Work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m., though these timelines may change if emergencies arise.

Some delays should be expected for motorists in the area, however, every effort will be made to minimize disruptions. For the safety of workers and public, please obey traffic control signage and slow-down in the area.

ACTIVE LIVING CENTRE, 43RD AVENUE

Work began Monday, Sept. 23, to tie in a sanitary service that will impact traffic patterns on 43rd Avenue between the west entrance/exit of Kal Tire Place and Alexis Park Drive.

On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 23, 24 and 26, westbound traffic on 43rd Avenue will be reduced to one lane. On Wednesday and Friday, Sept. 25 and 27, westbound lanes on 43rd will be closed creating two-way traffic on eastbound lanes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Wednesday and Friday, September 25 and 27 west bound traffic lanes on 43rd Avenue will be closed creating two-way traffic on east bound lanes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A single westbound lane will be reopened from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Work is planned to be completed and both westbound lanes are scheduled to reopen at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Every effort will be made to minimize disruption to the public and activities at Alexis Park Elementary, Kal Tire Place and Kal Tire Place North. The Vernon Vipers play their B.C. Hockey League home opener Friday at 6 p.m. against the West Kelowna Warriors.

The City thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while this work is being completed.

30th Avenue

Residents and visitors are advised that the final phase of a multi-phase paving project in downtown Vernon is scheduled this week.

The three-phased project will take place on 30th Avenue between 29th Street and 33rd Street, and on 31st Street between 30th Avenue and 31st Avenue. 

Phase 3:
Work was slated to start on the final phase, which will involve paving on 30th Avenue between 32nd Street and 33rd Street, early Monday. Work on this phase is expected to be completed within one week, weather permitting.

During construction, vehicle access will be restricted; however, sidewalk and pedestrian access will be maintained as well as access to area businesses. The city encourages residents and visitors to continue to shop and support local.

A temporary detour will be required for a portion of 30th Avenue this week, as crews complete underground utility work.

Starting as early as 7 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, the 30th Avenue and 38th Street intersection will be closed to through traffic.

The work is expected to take one week to complete, weather dependent. Detours are available along 27th Avenue.

Local and business traffic will still be able to access residences in the area.
