A boil water notice has been issued for a large area of Vernon along Okanagan Lake due to a water main break, and a water quality advisory is in place for other parts of Okanagan Landing and Bella Vista.
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and Interior Health is advising some Greater Vernon Water customers they are on a precautionary boil water notice until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe. The affected area includes parts of the Tronson Road and Travistock Road areas as shown on the map in the above photo gallery.
A break in the water main in this area caused a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity. The break has been isolated and is currently being repaired. As a result, the RDNO is issuing the water notice to the area, repairing and flushing the water main, and completing sampling to ensure the safety of the water system,
When the water service resumes, properties in the area may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and/or air. They can run cold water until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.
"The level of treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained; however, customers in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or brushing their teeth," the RDNO said in a media release shortly before 5 p.m. May 8.
The RDNO also issued a precautionary water quality advisory for parts of Okanagan Landing, Tronson Road and the Bella Vista area, due to the water main break that caused partial depressurization and a loss of water pressure to some customers. These residents are advised they may want to boil their water before any of the aforementioned uses.
