Vandals, thieves and scammers continue to keep Oceanside RCMP personnel busy.
During the week of April 21 to April 27, Oceanside RCMP received 267 complaints. Some of the other incidents included:
On April 22, a vehicle was reported vandalized with damage to the paint in the 200 block of Moilliet Street South in Parksville. The same day, a resident reported losing $3,000 after responding a fraudster posing as phone company employee and gaining access to banking information. Also on April 22, a community postal box was reported vandalized with compartments accessed in the 4500 block of Crosley Road in Bowser; and a squeegee and a bucket used to clean windshields was reported stolen by a female from a business in the 300 block of Island Highway East in Parksville.
A vehicle was reported to have had eggs thrown at it while parked in the 100 block of Morison Avenue in Parksville on April 23. The same day, a business break-and-enter was reported in the 600 block of Alberni Highway in Parksville. Nothing was reported missing.
On April 25, a bicycle was reported stolen in the 100 block of Jensen Avenue in Parksville. Photographic evidence led to a male and recovery of the bicycle the same day. Also April 25, a vehicle was reported vandalized with damage to the paint in the 400 block of Bay Avenue in Parksville; and two unlocked vehicles were reported rummaged through with a phone charger and change missing in the 5000 block of Thompson Clarke Drive West in Bowser.
A vehicle was reported vandalized with a hole drilled in the gas tank at the Wesley Ridge Hike Trail, Alberni Highway and Lockwood Creek in Qualicum Beach on April 26. The same day, a residential break-and-enter was reported in the 4500 block of Callow Road in Bowser. A single male was arrested and released to attend court at a later date.
On April 27, four nighttime trespassers were reported in the 2900 block of Christie Road in Qualicum Beach; and a secured, maroon-colour Giant Talon 18-speed bicycle was reported stolen from Top Bridge Park parking lot in Parksville.
Several found items were reported to police. A backpack with a tent inside was found (File No. 2025-3761) near the intersection of Island Highway East and Kinghorn Road in Nanoose Bay on April 22. The same day, a child’s lime green bicycle was found (File 2025-3763) in the 100 block of Island Highway East in Parksville. And on April 25, a pink cruiser style bicycle was found (File 2025-3895) on Pioneer Crescent in Parksville. Contact Oceanside RCMP during regular business quoting the specific file numbers to claim.
