School District 73 superintendent and CEO Dr. Rhonda Nixon is resigning after being in the job since July 1, 2021.
On Thursday morning, July 3, board chair Heather Grieve shared with staff that Dr. Nixon has decided to return to Alberta to support her family and has resigned from her position, noted district’s director of communications and board administration Chelsea Isenor in an emailed response.
Dr. Nixon's last day as superintendent will be July 4, 2025.
“The board of education will appoint an interim superintendent as they launch a search for a permanent replacement,” Isenor confirmed.
Originally from Alberta, Prior to taking the job at SD 73, Dr. Nixon had 30 years of experience in rural, rural-urban and large school districts as well as being a professor at the University of Alberta, noted a media release at the time of her hiring.
In Alberta she was the deputy superintendent of Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, overseeing inclusive and early education, English as a second language, Indigenous education, K-12 curriculum, distance and outreach education, alternative education programs, educational technologies and data management.
