Creston was among several B.C. communities that saw record-breaking heat on Wednesday, May 28, as a sudden one-day heat wave swept across the province.
Environment Canada reported Creston reached 32.6 C, breaking the previous record of 31.5 C set on the same day back in 1986.
Here are a few of the other communities that set new temperature records, including two from nearly 90 years ago:
- Cache Creek: 35.9 C (previous record: 35.0 C in 1983)
- Chetwynd: 30.6 C (previous: 30.1 C in 2005)
- Dawson Creek: 31.9 C (previous: 30.0 C in 1936)
- Fort St. John: 30.4 C (previous: 30.0 C in 1936)
- Richmond: 27.4 C (previous: 25.2 C in 2017)
- Vancouver International Airport: 27.9 C (previous: 25.9 C in 2017)
With summer still weeks away, the early-season heat is a reminder of the shifting extremes in B.C.’s climate.
