A small fire that was burning into Tuesday afternoon, June 10, about 20 kilometres northwest of Nakusp, is now under control, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports.

The fire, identified Monday, June 9, by BCWS at the western limits of the Southeast Fire Centre, started within a kilometre of Fosthall Creek on the west side of Upper Arrow Lake, and grew to 0.3 hectares in size

That's about half as large as a football field, burning about 10 kilometres across the water from Highway 23.

The fire also happened within five kilometres of Recreation Sites and Trails BC's Mosquito Lake area.

BCWS suspects this is a human-caused wildfire, sparked either accidentally or intentionally.

Still considered out of control by late morning Tuesday, the fire now is "not projected to spread beyond the current perimeter," according to BCWS.

"Suppression actions are being taken to limit the spread of this unwanted wildfire," BCWS wrote.

While no area restrictions are currently in place, anyone nearby is encouraged to contact their local authority for the latest evacuation information.
