Sicamous Fire Rescue (SFR) is hosting an Open House to celebrate the old and the new.
The event will showcase the dedicated crew, introduce the public to new Fire Chief Lorenzo De Arcangelis and give longtime former chief Brett Ogino the firefighter's traditional Final Call.
"The 'Final Call' is a deeply significant tradition in the fire service, marking the end of a firefighter's career. It symbolizes the conclusion of their years of dedication, sacrifice and service to the community," the SFR said in a Facebook post. "During this moment, a radio or dispatch announcement is made to honour the retiring member, recognizing their bravery and commitment."
In addition to Ogino's formal send off, the open house will also include displays and demonstrations, a Firefighter Combat/Fire Fit Challenge, fire prevention and public education, and FireSmart awareness. The department will also take the opportunity to showcase the new SFR brand and services, equipment and conduct a live auto extrication with Eagle Valley Rescue members who will be on hand in addition to Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue.
The day will also include an introduction to the SFR Fire Academy, the Wildfire Academy and the chance to meet the Sicamous Wildland Fire Crew, with "exciting future plans" also to be unveiled.
In addition to all the fire fun, Fritz the Baker will be on location with food available for purchase, including bratwurst and sauerkraut, cotton candy and baked goods.
The open house will take place at the Fire Hall on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m., starting with Ogino's Final Call at the start.
"Come enjoy great food, live demonstrations, and the chance to support your local fire department," the Facebook post adds. "We look forward to seeing you there!"
