The City of Salmon Arm will continue its collaboration with the Shuswap Trail Alliance (STA).
At its Oct. 10 meeting, council gave unanimous support to the city entering a four-year fee for service agreement with the STA for $50,000 per year plus the B.C. Consumer Price Index (CPI) to a maximum of five per cent. The contract begins Jan. 1, 2024.
The city’s previous four-year-contract with the STA was for $44,000 plus CPI. Staff explained the new contract requires increased service levels from the STA.
The STA has provided the following services to the city: general advice on trail development issues; environmental screening/adaptive planning; trail stewardship; trail experience development and programs; co-ordination of capital projects; technical trail services and regional collaboration.
The STA will also be looking to renew a similar agreement with the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, as well as a scaled contribution, based on population, from Sicamous, Chase and Enderby.
“I think this is one of the most valued agreements that we have in our community and I think many residents would echo that,” commented Mayor Alan Harrison. “The work that the Shuswap Trail Alliance not just does in the future, but has done over the past decade to ensure that our trails are in good shape, to build new trails, working with Greenway’s recommendations and council… think this is very good value for the residents of Salmon Arm.”
