The City of Abbotsford is proceeding with the next step to replace the playground at Ridgeview Park and to add a new splash pad.
The city has issued request for proposals (RFP), seeking applications from companies that can provide design consulting services.
Ridgeview Park is located at 3520 Vantage Place on the north side of Ridgeview Drive in the Townline neighbourhood in west Abbotsford.
The park spans 1.78 hectares (44 acres) and currently includes a baseball diamond, soccer field, playground, washroom building, picnic shelter, walking path and a 21-stall parking lot.
The RFP states that the park has been identified as a “priority location” for a new splash pad after local residents listed that as something they wanted included.
“At the same time, the playground equipment is aging, and for safety considerations, the park has also been identified as a priority for a playground equipment replacement,” the document states.
The RFP indicates that the playground “should consider accessible play features that encourage different types of play for all ages and abilities.”
“Due to limited space, we encourage a creative design that will allow the splash pad area to be used as an informal play space during non-operating seasons,” the RFP states.
The budget for the project is $800,000, according to the documents.
The city anticipates awarding the contract for the design work by July 18 and the contract for construction by March 2, 2026.
Construction is expected to start by March 11, with “substantial completion” by July 15, 2026.
