The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is considering new regulations requiring tourism accommodation operators to obtain business licences.

The regulations would apply to Electoral Area E (Naramata) only. Other electoral areas would not be affected.

The proposal for tourist accommodations is in addition to the proposed business licence regulations bylaw, which would introduce requirements for operators of short-term rental accommodations in several parts of the regional district.

Tourist accommodations include agri-tourism accommodations, campgrounds, hotels, motels and tourist cabins.

If the bylaw is adopted, operators of tourist accommodations will be required to obtain business licences. An annual fee of $200 has been proposed for these licences.

Those affected by the proposed bylaw are encouraged to submit written representations to the regional district by Friday, June 20 at 4 p.m. Submissions may be mailed or dropped off at the regional district office, 101 Martin Street, Penticton, B.C. V2A 5J9. Submissions may also be emailed to the regional district’s planning department at planning@rdos.bc.ca.
