BC Wildfire is responding to the Stolle Creek wildfire (K22543) approximately 3 km southeast of Little Fort as of 5 p.m. August 6.
The fire is a rank 3 wildfire and can be seen just off the highway in Little Fort being attended by ground and air crews. Local Blackpool, Little Fort and Chu Chua fire departments are attending along with nine BC Wildfire Service personnel, two helicopters and an air tanker.
The fire is estimated to be 2 hectares in size and is a moderately vigorous surface fire. The fire is highly visible in Little Fort and to travellers on Highway 5 and surrounding areas.
Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Director for Electoral area “A” - Wells Gray Country, Usoff Tsao urges residents to stay calm and be prepared while enjoying their long weekend in spite of the high fire risk conditions in the North Thompson.
“They are hitting the fire hard and the three fire departments along with BC Wildfire are already actioning the fire. They’ve also brought in a couple of air tankers. No need to panic. Its important to keep updated via the TNRD Website, social media or the BC Wildfire website,” Tsao said.
Tsao recommends having an emergency ‘go’ bag packed as well as taking advantage of the Voyent Alert app.
“We want people to stay calm and be prepared but continue to enjoy their long weekend. Best advice is to follow updates and have your ‘go’ bag ready just in case,” he said.
Tsao added that crews are working around the clock to provide updated emergency information to the public throughout the wildfire season this year.
