About 10 hectares of land near Nemiah Valley Lodge will be the focus of prescribed burning by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS)min collaboration with Xeni Gwet’in First Nation this week.

The objective of this burn is to restore open grasslands by reducing encroachment from coniferous trees and reducing wildfire hazard by removing accumulations of combustible materials, noted the BCWS.

Burning may begin as early as April 17, 2024, and may continue periodically until April 20, 2024. Burning will be dependent on weather, site and venting conditions. Ignitions will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow for quick smoke dissipation.

Smoke from this prescribed burn may be visible from Nemiah Valley, 900 Road and surrounding areas.
