Residents hoping to weigh in on North Saanich’s Official Community Plan will have to wait a little longer as the public hearing originally scheduled for June 23 has been postponed.

While the date has not yet been set, the public hearing is expected to take place in July.

According to the district, this will enable staff and council to consider further amendments to the proposed OCP.

The postponement followed a discussion held during the special council meeting on June 16.

Instead of the public hearing, another special council meeting for deliberations on the proposed amendments will be held on June 23 at 1 p.m. in the council chambers.

The District of North Saanich has been actively seeking public feedback on the OCP, which outlines a vision for the municipality's future.

The initial draft was presented to council on March 24 and subsequently reviewed by council committees.

Following the initial presentation, the district conducted extensive public engagement throughout April, incorporating input received on the first draft.

Draft 2 of the OCP was then presented to the council on May 12 during a committee meeting and a special council meeting.

Further public input was solicited, including another engagement session held May 14 at the municipal hall.

The OCP draft received its first reading at the council meeting on May 26. Second reading was initially scheduled for June 9, but council deferred the discussion to a special meeting held recently on June 16.

The anticipated third reading and adoption of the bylaw will most likely take place sometime in July.
