A record number of North Island College students are attending convocation ceremonies this June.

A record number of North Island College students are attending convocation ceremonies this June.

The Port Alberni, Campbell River and Comox Valley campuses are holding events for graduates, with more than 480 students joining NIC, their families and friends for convocation. By comparison, the record-setting number of attendees last year was 380.

“While we at North Island College celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, at convocation – most importantly – we celebrate the students,” said Tony Bellavia, Vice-President, Academic. “And we celebrate the path ahead for them and all the amazing differences they will make in the world.”

The number that registered for each campus are 78 in Port Alberni, 92 in Campbell River and 313 in Comox Valley.

On June 12 from 1 to 3 p.m., the Port Alberni campus held its convocation at the Alberni Athletic Hall. The programs with the largest number of graduates are Health Care Assistant, Early Childhood Care and Education and Early Childhood – Infant/Toddler Diploma.

The Campbell River convocation is on June 16 at the Tidemark Theatre from 12 to 2 p.m. It features graduates from a wide range of programs like Business Administration, Health Care Assistant, Culinary Business Operations, Employment Transition and Hospital Unit Clerk.

The Comox Valley has added a third event at the Sid Williams Theatre for convocation this year on Monday, June 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. because of the large number of graduates. The event on Monday evening is open to students enrolled in programs like Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Criminology, Fine Arts, Health Care Aide, and Animal Care Aide.

On June 17, NIC will hold the two other Comox Valley convocations, also at the Sid Williams Theatre. The early ceremony, starting at 10 a.m., is for Business, Culinary, Digital Design and Development, Office Administration and Tourism graduates.

The final event starts at 2 p.m. for graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Early Childhood Care and Education, Human Services, Practical Nursing, Social Services and Workplace Professionalism.
