The 18th annual Lions Cultus Lake Fishing Derby is dedicated to the long-term survival of the Cultus Lake sockeye salmon.

Derby participants will be heading to Cultus Lake to kickoff Father's Day weekend on Saturday, June 14 for event which runs 5 a.m. to noon.

More than 240 anglers showed up in 2024.

Main Beach is where the action is and the event focuses on reducing the numbers of northern pikeminnow and invasive smallmouth bass which prey on the young sockeye.

There will be info booths to find out about the lake ecosystem and best practices to help protect the sockeye and ultimately ensure the long-term viability of the lake.

Registration runs until 11 a.m. Tickets are $3 for kids and $7 for adults, and are available at Fred’s Custom Tackle, or the Main Beach concession.

A final weigh-in for all participating anglers will take place from noon until 2 p.m., with a chance to win $2,500 in cash prizes. All registered participants are also eligible for door prizes.

No fishing licences needed and free parking for the first 50 people to register. See more at cultusderby.ca
