A grass fire on Camp Road was quickly extinguished by the Lake Country Fire Department on Saturday afternoon, May 31.

Just as a wind storm started to pass through the Central Okanagan on Saturday afternoon, multiple fire crews were called to a grass fire in Lake Country.

Around 3 p.m. on May 31, the Lake Country Fire Department (LCFD) received reports of the fire on Camp Road, close to Okanagan Centre Road West. All three local stations (71, 81, 91) were called to the scene, along with a request for support from BC Wildfire.

Upon arrival, crews found a 10 metre by 50 metre grass fire near homes and power lines on Camp Road. Firefighters were able to quickly douse the blaze before it spread.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but not suspicious at this time.

Lake Country RCMP also attended the scene and managed traffic in the area. BC Hydro, who had a busy afternoon, was also notified.

"LCFD would like to thank the residents who called 911 to report the fire," stated the District of Lake Country in a social media post. "Their quick actions helped the LCFD and Lake Country RCMP respond to the scene as quickly as possible."
