Oak Bay police are investigating a collision between a driver and child cyclist that happened on May 14.

A trip to the hospital luckily proved precautionary after a child on a bike was hit by a driver in Oak Bay on May 14.

Oak Bay police responded to a report of a collision between a young cyclist and a vehicle in the 2000-block of Lansdowne Road shortly after 4 p.m. Emergency services, including Oak Bay Fire and BC Emergency Health Services, also attended the scene.

The child, who was wearing a helmet, was assessed at the scene and transported to the hospital as a precaution. No serious injuries have been reported.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police are speaking with witnesses and continue to investigate.

It was among the 68 calls for service to the Oak Bay Police Department May 12 to 18.

On the lookout for impaired drivers

Several alcohol-related driving offences are among other calls outlined in the Oak Bay Police Department's weekly release.

Officers issued a 24-hour driving suspension on May 12 after stopping a driver for not having insurance.

During the stop, the officer detected an odour of alcohol, Oak Bay police said in a news release. A roadside investigation led to a 24-hour driving prohibition, and the driver was also ticketed for no insurance.

A driver without their headlights on warranted a stop on May 18 shortly before 3 a.m. in the 1700-block of Lansdowne Road. That stop led to an impaired driving investigation where the 28-year-old male driver received a 90-day roadside prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Impaired driving roadblocks over various locations May 13 saw 60 vehicles stopped, two tickets issued for unrelated offences and four verbal warnings were given.

Officers didn’t find any impaired drivers.

Police seek shoplifting suspects

Officers are looking to identify two female suspects after someone stole from the downtown Oak Bay Pharmasave May 12.

The two reportedly stole $693 worth of merchandise from the Oak Bay Avenue shop, reported to police the next day.
