Drug alert issued for Nelson area: Interior Health

A drug alert has been issued for the Nelson area by Interior Health.

The health authority says it has found light pink pebbles sold as Down that contain carfentanil, benzodiazepines and the tranquilizer xylazine. Carfentanil is a 50-100 times more potent opioid than fentanyl. 

Interior Health says the drug is an extreme risk for overdose.
