A development permit has been issued for the proposed construction of a Bartle & Gibson store.
City council voted unanimously in support of issuing the permit, with Mayor Alan Harrison welcoming the new business to Salmon Arm at the March 24 council meeting.
"It’s great to see that space being filled in and it’s wonderful for the proposed use," said Harrison of the store's intended home, 621 10 Street SW, north of Piccadilly Mall.
The planned development includes a one-storey, 1,892.7 square metre (20,372.5 square foot) commercial building with a 404.6 square metre show room and the remainder consisting of a showroom, warehousing and wholesale area.
A letter of intent submitted with the development permit application explained the proposed building "will supply plumbers, electricians and the general public with building supplies for their new construction projects."
"We have taken steps to present a building that works and fits with the neighbouring buildings located on 10th Street SW," reads the letter.
The next step will be a building permit application, for which the applicant will be required to submit to the city a detailed site servicing and lot grading plan for all on-site work, including parking lot design, underground utility locations, storm and sanitary drainage, impact on adjacent properties, etc.
Based in Edmonton, the Canadian-owned Bartle & Gibson has been operating in Western Canada since 1944.
