Penticton has started the process of holding its second city council by-election in 2025.
General voting day to elect a new city councillor and replace Similkameen—South Okanagan—West Kootenay MP Helena Konanz is set for Aug. 23.
The budget for the by-election is $75,000, according to the city. It will be funded through the general surplus.
Candidate nomination packages will be available — from the city's website or for pick-up at Penticton City Hall — starting on Monday, June 9, 2025. Nomination documents, meanwhile, will be accepted starting July 8 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. July 18, 2025.
At a special city council on June 4, municipal politicians appointed Angie Collison as Chief Election Officer, and Paula McKinnon and Hayley Anderson, as deputies.
Advanced voting for the city's upcoming by-election is set for August 13 and 14. All polling, including on general voting day, will take place at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
This will mark Penticton's second by-election this year after residents went to the polls on April 5, and elected Jason Reynen to replace MLA Amelia Boultbee on city council. That by-election was after former councillor Boultbee became the Penticton-Summerland MLA in last October's provincial race.
