With an early heat wave arriving in the region, the Town of Creston has opened a cooling station to help escape the heat.
The station will still be open Wednesday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Creston Emergency Services Building (1505 Cook Street), offering cold water and a misting fan to help residents stay cool.
Please note: the cooling station may be taken down early depending on weather conditions. Afternoon thunderstorms are in the forecast today.
The stretch of warm weather this week marks the first significant rise in temperatures this spring, which can pose a risk for those not yet acclimatized.
“This is not a heat warning or extreme heat emergency,” the town noted in a public advisory. “The first high temperatures of the season can lead to some people overheating because they are not yet accustomed to warmer weather."
Residents are encouraged to monitor themselves and loved ones, and consider checking in on neighbours and friends who may be at greater risk in the heat, especially seniors without air conditioned housing.
Additional air-conditioned public spaces are available at:

312 19 Ave. North
Open Monday to Saturday - 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday - 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
