Husband Road construction is paused in Coldstream.

The rehabilitation of Husband Road remains ongoing, and could stretch into the school year.

Husband Road to Kalamalka Road remains closed, though access to the Kal Beach parking lot has been maintained. Drivers can use Middleton Way to Husband Road to access the lot via Highway 6.

The normal access route has been closed since early July due to a project that has hit a snag. The project involves removing and replacing the road surface, but work has been paused because Husband Road is within an identified archaeological zone, requiring a site alteration permit to continue the work.

The District of Coldstream said Thursday evening that the Provincial Archaeological Branch has agreed to expedite issuing the permit, but the district doesn't know when it can expect that permit to arrive.

The district said the branch is allowing it to apply dust abatement, adding dust conditions will be monitored and addressed as the need arises.

The district is also working with the local school district to manage bussing routes in the event Husband Road remains closed into September. If a bus route is affected, families will be notified by the school district.
