Traffic is about to ramp up at city hall as Chilliwack homeowners pay their property taxes before the July 2 deadline.
City of Chilliwack put out an online reminder on June 20 about the range of payment options available.
"Skip the line and save time by paying your taxes online, through your financial institution, by mail, or in one of our two secure drop boxes available 24-hours a day outside of City Hall," according to the city notice.
Property tax bills can be paid at city hall by cash, cheque or Interac from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays.
All applications for home owner grants have to be made directly through the Provincial Home Owner Grant website at: www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant.
The City of Chilliwack is also reminding citizens it does not accept credit cards for payment of property taxes or utilities.
"For your convenience, the city tax office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from June 23 until July 2 however it will be closed on Canada Day, July 1."
For owners on the prepayment plan, any outstanding tax account balance must be paid and, if eligible, the Home Owner Grant claimed by the tax due date in order to avoid late payment penalty charges and to remain on the plan.
Overdue tax account balances will result in automatic cancellation of the tax pre-payment plan.
