The Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce is hosting its second annual Conversation with Indigenous Leaders over lunch on Nov. 8 at the The’i:Tseliya Health Centre.
This year they’ll be diving into topics like: community accord, partnerships, truth and reconciliation, and colonization.
Speakers will include Harry Maynard (KWAST-en-ayu) of Tla’amin Nation, with four terms as chief councillor and councillor. Maynard’s bio says he has lived on a reserve his whole life, governed by the Indian Act and is “of a family directly impacted by Canada’s Indian Residential School System.”
Stewart Alsgard (Qoqoq) is a UBC graduate, secondary level teacher, retired naval captain, Officer of the Order of Military Merit, and the former mayor of Powell River.
Tzeachten Chief Derek Epp will be a local voice added to the mix of leadership, as they gather to share stories and best practices.
”We are so excited to invite these individuals to our community for an afternoon of sharing and learning from one another,” said chamber officials.
