The pending demolition of Castlegar's Pioneer Arena is one step closer after the City of Castlegar issued notice of the disposition of the public land located at 901/925 Columbia Ave.

The property is slated to become a combined housing and health-care initiative with construction on the housing component scheduled to begin later this summer.

The new building will provide up to 78 new non-market housing units. Non-market housing includes units with rents geared to income and below-market rents for households with moderate incomes.

The property will be subject to a long-term lease for the purposes of affordable housing to the BC Housing Management Commission and Lu'ma Native BCH
Housing Society.

According to the city's notice, persons who consider that they are affected by the disposition of public land will be provided an opportunity to make representation by delivering a written submission to the Development Services Department by 4:30 p.m. on June 23.

Questions on the proposed land disposition may be directed to the Acting Director of Community Safety & Development at mdurand@castlegar.ca or
delivered to 460 Columbia Avenue, Castlegar, BC VIN 1G7 or by phone at 250-365-8955.

Construction time frames for the medical component of the project have yet to be determined.
