UPDATE: Boil water notice ends in Vernon, begins in Coldstream

Temporary notice in place until drinking water levels are again safe

UPDATE MONDAY, JAN. 6:

The boil water notice issued for parts of Vernon's BX area has been rescinded, effective Monday, Jan. 6.

Bacterial testing results and disinfection levels are within normal drinking water standards in the distribution system.

Also on Monday, Jan. 6, RDNO and Interior Health advise some customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water along Kalamalka Road north of Husband Road and south of the Alpine Centre (100 Kalamalka Road) that they are now on a water quality advisory (WQA) until  5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8.

This is due to a break in the water main in this area which resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity.

As a result, the RDNO is issuing a WQA to affected areas, repairing and flushing the water main, as well as sampling the water main to ensure the continued safety of the water system. Crews are currently on-site repairing the break.

ORIGINAL STORY

A power outage has resulted in the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) issuing a boil water notice (BWN) for some Greater Vernon Water customers of Vernon's BX region.

The advisory was issued Friday morning, Jan. 3, in conjunction with Interior Health, for customers on Brookside Road, Malim Road, Curlew Road, Maddox Road, Hughes Road, Briggs Road, Hartnell Road south of Day Road, Dixon Dam Road from East Vernon Road to Brookside Road, as well as 4406 and 4247 De Roo Road.

The notice is precautionary and in place until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.

"A power outage at the South BX 2 pump station resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity," said the RDNO in a release. "Power has since been restored and flushing to improve the water quality was completed; however, the RDNO is issuing a precautionary BWN to the affected areas and sampling the water to ensure the continued safety of the water system as directed by Interior Health."

When the water service resumes, properties in the area may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and/or air. Run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

The level of service and treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained; however, customers in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing any food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.

Updates will be posted to www.rdno.ca/news (filter by Water Notices).

When the notice is rescinded, it will be posted on the RDNO website and sent to email subscribers. This news article will also be updated.
