UPDATE: Wildfire out between Whatshan and Vernon-Slocan highway

UPDATE July 8:

A fire burning near Whatshan Lake is believed to be out.

BC Wildfire Service has removed the Barnes Creek 2 blaze from its map, two days after it was reported.

ORIGINAL July 7:

A second wildfire has been discovered east of Cherryville near Whatshan Lake.

BC Wildfire Service discovered the blaze Sunday, July 6.

It is located between Highway 6 and Whatshan Lake.

The fire is an estimated .009 hectares and currently being held.

Lightning is the suspected cause of the fire, called Barnes Creek 2.

It is the second wildfire near Barnes Creek in just four days. A fire, called Barnes Creek, also lightning caused, was discovered July 3, but was out a day later.
