This year, the District of Sooke is giving back to the not-for-profits who help keep the community vibrant, connected and caring.
The 2025 Community Grant Program will distribute $106,650 to 26 local organizations, supporting a wide range of programs and services.
“These grants reflect our commitment to supporting the people and organizations that make Sooke strong,” says Mayor Maja Tait.
“Whether it's food security, youth engagement, or cultural events, this funding helps bring ideas to life and meet real needs in our community.”
Grants of up to $7,000 are awarded annually to organizations enhancing the quality of life for Sooke residents through arts and culture initiatives, community development projects, environmental sustainability, heritage preservation, public safety and sports and recreation.
The funding will be sourced from the district’s Community Grants Program, which is capped at $65,000. Additional support will be provided from the COVID-19 Safe Restart Reserve Fund, Climate Action Initiatives Fund and Council Contingency. It is meant to reflect council's commitment to community resilience, recovery and climate awareness.
This year, some of the top recipients are Sooke Community Radio, the Sooke Region Food Community Health Initiative, the Sooke Hospice Society, Sooke Meals on Wheels, the Sooke Transition House Society and the Fred Milne Park Society, who will all be receiving $7,000.
