Nanaimo dance group puts on Celtic music and dance celebration

Acclaim Celtic Dancers' What's the Craic? event was held June 18 at Maffeo Sutton Park

A Nanaimo dance group made sure their season-ending celebration was a Celtic rockin' good time.

Acclaim Celtic Dancers hosted its second annual What's the Craic? community event on Wednesday, June 18, at Maffeo Sutton Park.

Hundreds turned out to see Celtic rock groups the Whiskeydicks and the Grinning Barretts, interspersed with season-ending showcase cultural dances by Acclaim Celtic Dancers as well as guests. There was also a beer garden, bouncy castle, and community booths.

A press release from Acclaim Celtic Dancers noted that the free event was a barrier-free opportunity for people to celebrate and share tradition together in "an inclusive, community-powered celebration of Celtic music, dance, and story."
