Hi, my name is Lynne. I am an ordinary person. I like to be comfortable and I like for people to like me and approve of what I do. The other day a bunch of us went to see the movie ‘Courageous’ which caused a lot of thought.
“Don’t rock the boat,” “Don’t get involved,” and “It’s really none of my business,” are some well known sayings that keep us in that comfortable well-liked place. In the movie ‘Courageous’ a group of men made a pact to be the men of their families and communities by standing up for what is right.
We as people of God, have a responsibility to raise our families, teaching them about God, teaching them good moral values and helping them to live them out. This requires time, effort, emotional strain etc. It is not the responsibility of the schools, daycares, babysitters, and friends to do this. It is primarily the parent’s responsibility. If your child is a bully, where should he/she learn to be kind? God has laid out some very simple rules ... simple meaning easy to understand, but takes work to carry them out. Husbands are to love and cherish their wives, wives are to honor and respect their husbands and children are to obey their parents. That is it in a nutshell. All of these things are based out of love. Stand up in love.
We are to stand up for what is right and good in our community. Do you know who the candidates are; do you know what their values are? Yes, it is our responsibility to vote. Do you know what is going on around you? What is going on in your neighborhood? Can you make a difference? Do you know who lives next to you? Take an interest because you love your neighbor, not being nosey. Make a difference because you love.
What about your country. I love Canada and I am proud of being a Canadian. What can I do to make my country better? What laws are being passed at this time? Do you pray for your country and your leaders? We have taken prayer, and Bible reading out of the schools and we do not sing O’ Canada every Monday as before. It was ordinary people who made moves to have these foundational things taken out of the schools. Ordinary people have done extraordinary things ... good and bad. Just remember the evil prevails when the good do nothing - in families, in communities and in our countries.
This week is Remembrance Day; honor those who stood up for the good in our world so that the evil would not prevail.
