A wildfire that sparked close to homes on Forrest Drive was quickly brought under control Friday evening thanks to the swift response of Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue.

According to Acting Captain Kyle Boutin, crews were called to the wildland fire on June 6, with the emergency call coming in at 6 p.m.

Regional fire rescue arrived on scene within minutes and the fire was under control by 6:20 p.m.

Firefighters from Station 372 in Warfield and Station 374 in Trail responded, with three personnel from Warfield and seven from Trail.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire department.

Boutin reports that the incident involved a rank 2 wildfire located in close proximity to homes.

A rank 2 wildfire is described as a low-intensity surface fire with visible flames that typically remain under 1.2 metres high.

While manageable, this type of wildfire can still spread across grass and shrubs if not quickly controlled.

Boutin credited quick action by fire crews for successfully holding the fire back and preventing it from reaching any structures.

Firefighters dug fire guards and wet down the surrounding area to contain the blaze.

No injuries or property damage were reported.
