The Trail Smokettes are wrapping up another season of giving, starting with a $500 donation to Rossland Search and Rescue.
Known for their annual fundraising hockey tournament, the Smokettes combine their love of the game with a strong commitment to supporting local causes.
The annual tournament brings together eight men's teams and five women's teams from the Kootenays and beyond, including communities like Rossland, Grand Forks, Nakusp, and Revelstoke.
“We count on corporate sponsorships and contributions from local businesses, especially for door prizes, to help cover tournament costs," said Bridgett Kivell in an earlier interview with the Trail Times.
"That way, we can donate as much as possible back to our communities."
Tournament proceeds support food banks and other community initiatives throughout the region.
The Smokettes welcome players of all ages and skill levels, from first-timers to experienced skaters, brought together by a shared goal of having fun.
Their signature send-off still stands: “Cheers, beers, brassieres! Smokettes!”
