Kootenay Columbia schools net $20,500 from ‘Smokies in Our School’

6th Annual Smokies in Our School wrapped up on the Trail ice last week

The 6th Annual Smokies in Our School initiative has officially concluded, with nine participating schools filling the Cominco Arena on their designated nights for a chance to receive a $5,000 USD donation from the Murphy Family Foundation.

This year, local schools received an incredible total of $20,500 USD in donations.

Top schools and donations: Fruitvale Elementary – 1st Place: $5,000 USD; Glenmerry Elementary – 2nd Place: $4,000 USD; Rossland Summit School – 3rd Place: $3,000 USD.

The remaining participating schools each received a generous $1,500 USD donation:

JL Crowe; Webster Elementary;

St. Michael’s Catholic School;

Twin Rivers Elementary (Castlegar);

École des Sept-Sommets;

Kootenay Columbia Learning Centre.

The Trail community extends a heartfelt thank you to the Murphy Family Foundation for its continued support in giving back to our local schools and communities.
