A 36-year-old Rossland man was taken into custody three separate times in less than 24 hours last week, after allegedly causing disturbances in Trail, Rossland, and Trail again — each time requiring RCMP intervention.
The first incident unfolded Thursday afternoon, April 24, when the RCMP responded to an alarm triggered at a business in the 700 block of Victoria Street in downtown Trail.
The man reportedly became upset over what he believed was an overcharge for food.
He allegedly threw the food and yelled at staff, prompting employees to activate their alarm out of concern for their safety.
Police located the suspect nearby.
According to the RCMP report, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
He was arrested, transported to the Trail detachment, and lodged in the cellblock.
While in custody, police say he allegedly made threats to assault officers.
He was released once sober.
The next morning, Friday, April 25, RCMP were called again, this time to a business in the 2000 block of Columbia Avenue in Rossland.
Officers found the same man inside, allegedly disturbing staff and making veiled threats.
He was arrested for the second time, brought back to the Trail detachment, and once again allegedly threatened officers while in custody.
He was later released with a condition not to return to the Rossland store.
But the cycle repeated that evening.
Just before dinnertime on Friday, police received another call about a disturbance, this time from a business in the 1500 block of Second Avenue, East Trail.
Officers arrived to find the same man allegedly yelling at staff.
He was again found to be under the influence of alcohol, arrested, taken to the Trail detachment, and lodged in cells.
While in custody, he allegedly repeated the same threats toward the officer.
He was released once sober.
“Officers often deal with persons who repeatedly commit offences in the community,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich of Trail and Greater District RCMP.
“It can be challenging to deal with these situation and take time to resolve; however, our officers remained committed to keeping Trail safe.”
The man’s pattern of behaviour, three incidents in three locations in 24 hours, is now under further review by police and Crown Counsel.
