A new home has been found in East Trail for a local non-proft's second electric-assist trishaw.
“Cycling Unlimited is very grateful to Dale Fasthuber, owner of Columbia Glass, for generously agreeing to house our second trishaw in Trail,” Diana Daghofer announced this week.
"Many thanks to Dale for being such a great contributor to our community."
The announcement comes after Daghofer put out a call in mid-May for a secure downtown location to store the second trishaw, which was being relocated from Rossland.
With one trishaw already based at Columbia View Lodge, the local chapter needed a second, more centrally located storage space to expand access to rides for seniors and people with limited mobility.
Since 2021, Cycling Unlimited has been operating in Trail and Rossland, offering free rides aboard e-assist trishaws, essentially electric-powered rickshaws, piloted by trained volunteers.
Riders include residents of Columbia View Lodge, Chateau Manor, and members of the broader community.
Cycling Without Age is a global movement dedicated to reconnecting older adults with the joy of cycling, helping to reduce social isolation and promote well-being.
The initiative offers free bike rides using a specially designed trishaw — a three-wheeled bicycle featuring a comfortable seat in the front for passengers and a seat in the back for the volunteer pilot.
Central to its mission are the values of generosity, storytelling, relationship-building, and enjoying a leisurely pace.
Through these guided rides, the program fosters meaningful connections between generations, enriching the lives of both passengers and volunteers.
The Trail chapter, operated by Cycling Unlimited, follows the same model used by nearly 3,000 chapters in 52 countries.
The program is fully insured, volunteers are trained and undergo criminal record checks, and maintenance is provided by Gerrick’s Cycle free of charge, aside from parts.
