Barkerville's shoulder season opens May long weekend

Admissions are by donation for the shoulder season

Get ready to step back in time to the Gold Rush era with Barkerville launching its spring shoulder season on May 16. A number of the historic site's shops and exhibits will be open, the regular season kicks off May 31.

The Welcome Centre Hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, the walk-in gate will open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admissions to the site for the shoulder season will be by donation.

During the shoulder season, the following shops will be open:

  • McMahon's Confectionary (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • McPherson's Jewellers (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Mason & Daly General Merchants (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • C. Strouss Drygoods & Provisions (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Eldorado Gold Panning & Gift Shop (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • The Kwong Sang Wing Store (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to Monday)

Gold panning lessons can also be booked at Eldorado Gold Panning & Gift Shop during the shoulder season.

As far as food options go, the famous Goldfield Bakery will open from its doors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as will:

  • Wake Up Jake (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • House Hotel Saloon (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Lung Duck Tong Restaurant (11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with last seating at 6:30 p.m.)

Other locations in the site that will be open during the shoulder season are:

  • The post office, opening May 19 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Sundays)
  • Cameron & Ames Blacksmiths (Saturday to Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Cariboo Sentinel Printshop (Thursday to Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • St. George Hotel

People who would like to stay in Barkerville can now book the Forest Rose Campground with both reservations and first-come-first-served campers being accepted. The Barkerville Cottages and Historic Guest Houses are also available for booking.
