Folk/roots song-crafters Saskia and Darrel will be returning to Clearwater for a concert at the Blue Loon on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Saskia and Darrel say they are looking forward to be coming back to the Clearwater area, where they have performed quite a few times, either with Juno Award winner Gary Fjellgaard or as a duo, sometimes at the Blue Loon and other times at Shirley DeVooght's Serenity music center. They report they have always come away with a wonderful sense of welcome and belonging and are looking forward to seeing their old friends and meeting new ones.
Although they call B.C. home, these gifted folk/roots song-crafters live mostly on the road, performing to an ever-widening fan base. They are skilled and versatile musicians; considered by their peers and fans alike to be in the "journeyman" class of their trade.
Saskia hails from The Netherlands and Darrel was born on the Great Plains, so prairie culture runs through their veins. Recently they spent four years living in Saskatchewan and it was a huge creative landscape for their songwriting. They write about Canadian life and culture; stories of Louis Riel, war brides, prairie towns, voyageurs and rodeos; all set to intriguing melodies and backed by some of Canada's finest musicians.
They have toured extensively with Gary Fjellgaard for the last 10 years, opened for the Good Brothers, Stampeders, Emmerson Drive, and folk legend Roy Forbes (also known as Bim). They have notables like Daniel Powter, Darby Mills, Steve Dawson, Ken Hamm, Bill Hicks, and Nolan Murray (Tiller's Folly) appearing on their eight CDs.They were awarded Top Folk /Roots Album in Holland; Artist, Album, and Songwriter of the year from SCMA, received Top Five People's choice awards, and have enjoyed many years airplay on the top indie folk/roots charts in Europe and Canada.
The couple is currently touring to support their latest CD "Songbirds". They plan a fourth trip across Canada, and also have a third European tour booked for September of this year.
