Ziggy Alberts lit up Victoria’s Royal Theatre on Wednesday night, packing all 1,416 seats and then some. The Sunshine Coast singer-songwriter brought his soulful, sun-soaked sound to a crowd that was more than ready to soak it all in.
Opening the night was Melbourne’s Steph Strings, whose blistering finger-style guitar and heartfelt vocals cut through the room with ease. Her six-song set included rapid-fire riffs, percussive rhythms and personal stories that gave each track an emotional weight.
By the time she wrapped, she’d already promised a return – telling fans she’ll be back in February for her own headlining tour.
Then came Alberts, whose signature stage presence and laid-back charisma had the audience swaying from the start.
This marked his second Victoria stop – his first came last June – and the love in the room was immediate. Alberts is midway through the launch of his 66-show world tour, which kicked off earlier this month and will take him from Canada’s West Coast all the way through Europe.
Backed by little more than his guitar, piano, and voice, the 30-year-old turned stripped-down songs like “Runaway” into communal sing-alongs.
The tour rolls on with a stop tonight at Vancouver’s Malkin Bowl, but it’s clear Victoria already got its fill of warm melodies and world-class Aussie talent.
