The cold snap in the Interior of B.C. brought temperatures of -30 C and below to the North Thompson Valley. There is always something beautiful to see or uniquely seasonal to experience, even during the cold weather and long-awaited late snow that has followed a mostly green holiday season.
We hope you enjoy these wintry images submitted by locals living, working and playing in the Clearwater area, also known as Wells Gray Country.
When you visualize winter beauty or a favourite winter memory, what comes to mind? A blazing fire and crackling logs, with bales of hay for seating, near a frozen lake, as you sit sipping a nice hot beverage with your gloved hands wrapped around a Thermos cup?
The sounds of children laughing as their skates skim the outdoor skating pond and they slap the puck skimming across the ice? The warmth of a horse’s muzzle nudging you for a carrot or treat, after rushing up to greet you by the paddock fence before they turn to run across the crunchy snow?
A quiet snowshoe through the woods, stopping to see a flock of Pine Grosbeaks happily feeding on buds in the nearby conifers?
Snowmobiling, skiing, and snow fort-building in the crispy air all come to mind. It’s a prime time for photography on a white, sparkling, blue sky winter’s day. Whatever you are doing to explore winter, remember to plan ahead, and have your “go” pack near while making new winter memories with those you love. Happy snow days!
