Pianos in the Park has officially returned for its 11th year.

Festivals Kelowna held a small launch event at Laurel Square on June 10 to show off two of the pianos and treat attendees to a live performance by Wentworth Music's Aidan Christopher Gross.

Gross played on a piano painted by Kat Kremser who said she was inspired by an Okanagan Lake picture she had taken from her balcony.

"This is the biggest project I've ever done," Kremser said it's surreal knowing her artwork will be on display for the public all summer and could go back on display for the event in years to come.

Kremser was approached by Wentworth Music to paint the piano. She explained that the presenting sponsor had been asked if the business wanted to design the instrument, but with no artists on staff, they asked Kremser to step up.

"It's such a great program and everyone has been so helpful and awesome."

Painted pianos will be out in downtown Kelowna and Rutland until mid-September. Everyone is invited to sit down and tickle the ivories.
