Clearwater RCMP responded to 23 calls for service this past week including a commercial vehicle roll over near Blue River and an arrest made in Clearwater on advisement from the Duncan RCMP.

RCMP Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander of the Clearwater RCMP said on Feb. 21, an Edmonton man called the RCMP to report a collision on Highway 5 about eight minutes north of Blue River, B.C., Sgt. Simpson said.

“The complainant reported to the Clearwater RCMP that he had already made a police file with the Valemount RCMP. He told Const. Meyer he was driving, travelling northbound on Highway 5 when he hit some slush on the road and drove off road left and rolled the tractor trailer he was driving.”

The complainant advised police that his passenger in the sleeper was uninjured, adding that he was carrying electronics and required a tow as soon as possible, noted Simpson.

The Clearwater RCMP also received a call on Feb 22, from Duncan RCMP with a request that the Clearwater RCMP attend a home in Clearwater and arrest a man in reference to an assault of a 23-year-old woman in Duncan, B.C. that was alleged to have occurred in November of 2023.

Const. Meyer arrested the suspect then released him on a undertaking with a court date and conditions as requested by the Duncan RCMP. He is also under conditions of no contact or communication with the victim.

According to Sgt. Simpson, on Feb 25, 2024, at 6:06 p.m. B.C. Ambulance Service called to report a single vehicle motor vehicle incident (MVI) near the 1300 block of Clearwater Valley Road. Const. Tobin arrived and determined that a south bound rental Jeep driven by a man from London, England, slid off road left after over-correcting then collided with a two-foot boulder and then broke off three, five-inch trees before coming to a stop.

Simpson said the female passenger was driven to the hospital by ambulance and the males were given a ride by Const. Tobin to the hospital to wait for a ride from Kamloops.

Speed may have contributed for road conditions, along with lack of experience with vehicle and road conditions, said police.
