Clearwater RCMP responded to 51 calls for service this past week including theft of a lost credit card and stolen items from the local thrift shoppe.

Detachment commander Sgt. Grant Simpson said on Apr 5, 2024, at 6:28 p.m. a Salmon Arm man called to report fraudulent use of his credit card, which his wife lost while she travelled through Clearwater on Friday, presumably dropping the card in the Tim Hortons parking lot.

“The complainant advised his card was used at Subway at 12:03 p.m. for $3.14, then at Buy Low at 12:12 p.m. for $180.99 and finally at Canco Pizza at 12:31 p.m. for $177.53. His wife put a post on Facebook and an unknown person advised they saw a male, well known to police at the Shell around 12:45 p.m. trying to use a card that was declined.”

Simpson said the complainant advised he is working and moving to Grande Prairie and is thinking he wants to report for file number only but was unsure.

Officers have requested video footage from the businesses where the transactions took place and will continue to investigate.

On Friday April 5, 2024 at 11:52 a.m. Simpson said a complainant called the Clearwater RCMP to report a dark blue Dodge truck in the ditch on Highway 24 near Eakin Creek Road in Lone Butte B.C. No one observed near the vehicle but multiple items were seen strewn about.

Simpson said Const. Klassen attended and located a grey 2016 Ram 1500 with B.C. license plates in the westbound ditch. The tracks indicated the truck was westbound, crossed the center line almost going off road left prior to over correcting and going off road right and stopping in the ditch. No one was on scene.

“The driver seatbelt was done up and the shoulder strap was behind the head rest. Const. Klassen released the seat belt and it retracted, indicating that the driver was not wearing it at the time of the crash.”

Simpson continued the account saying the key was still in the ignition and no alcohol containers observed. Bridge Lake Towing was advised and asked to retrieve the vehicle. Police tape placed on the truck. Damage deemed less than $10,000.

On Sunday April 7, 2024 at 6:28 p.m. a complainant called the Clearwater RCMP to report a theft from the thrift store located at 742 Clearwater Village Road, Clearwater B.C.

Simpson said a male and a female had attended the store and stole three or four bags of unknown items from the donation table and placed them into a vehicle.

He said the owner of the vehicle is well known to police.

The thrift store staff made a social media post requesting the items be returned and as a result the male returned one bag of items.

“Const. Klassen spoke to the male on the phone who seemed very upset about the incident, saying that he told the woman not to take the items, but she did anyway.”

Simpson added that Const. Klassen asked the male to retrieve the rest of the items and meet him at the thrift store, which he did.

Const. Klassen updated that the complainant was satisfied with this outcome.
