Clearwater has a new reason to celebrate, as three remarkable students from Raft River Elementary have achieved a historic victory in the 37th annual Battle of the Books competition, held last Thursday, April 25, at the Henry Grube Education Centre.
The team, made up of Aurora (Grade 4), Seneh (Grade 3), and Poppy (Grade 4), competed against students from across School District 73 in a rigorous test of literary knowledge.
After months of preparation and reading 10 selected novels, the Raft River team advanced from the initial zone competition to face off against seven other schools in the district finals—a feat in itself, considering there are 35 elementary schools in the district.
In a nail-biting final round, the Raft River trio correctly answered an impressive 29 out of 30 questions, securing their place as champions. This marks the first time Raft River Elementary has ever won the prestigious competition.
Each student was awarded an individual trophy, and the school's name has been engraved on the district’s perpetual trophy, which will be proudly displayed at Raft River for the next year. This victory not only highlights the academic dedication of the students but also shines a spotlight on Clearwater as a hub of scholastic excellence.
Congratulations to Aurora, Seneh, and Poppy for their outstanding achievement. The entire community celebrates this momentous win with you!
