The Salmon Arm Legion held a small deal to commemorate a big deal, the anniversary of the D-Day invasion that turned the tide in the Second World War.
A handful of veterans, legion members and a city representative attended the cenotaph Friday, June 6 to lay wreaths and commemorate the significant event from 1944 that laid the foundations for the Allied victory. Following the wreaths, the padre said a prayer and the group sang O' Canada to close the ceremony.
Sgt. at Arms Walter Webster then introduced Patricia, his eye-catching army Jeep from 1944 that he had restored to its former glory. He explained that soldiers in the army used to name the tanks and vehicles after their sweethearts back home and, as his wife's name is Patricia, so is the Jeep's.
