Latremouille Park project in Little Fort ribbon cutting on June 24th

Following recent park improvements in Latremouille Park in Little Fort, a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the family-oriented space was held on June 24 during a community gathering that included a dedication by Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) director for Area “O” (Lower North Thompson), Jill Hayward.

Following recent park improvements in Latremouille Park in Little Fort, a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the family-oriented space was held on June 24 during a community gathering that included a dedication by Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) director for Area “O” (Lower North Thompson), Jill Hayward.

“This project has created an improved space for families and visitors in the community, while keeping the charm of Latremouille Park,” said Hayward. “The TNRD also recognizes the importance of the Canada Community Building Fund and contributions from Trans Mountain for enabling this improvement project, and the positive impacts for our community infrastructure.”

Project improvements included a new playground, picnic shelter with benches and a new outhouse as well as improved fencing on the property.

The TNRD received investments of $150,000 from the federal government and $80,000 from Trans Mountain, which covered all costs involved. The development of the plan for improvements was implemented by the TNRD with input from local residents.

Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada attended the event on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities.He addressed those attending the ribbon cutting, saying,”The Government of Canada is proud to invest in outdoor parks and recreation facilities, which play a vital role in ensuring the health, wellbeing, and vibrancy of our communities. The addition of the new playground and picnic area in Latremouille Park will provide visitors of all ages with greater opportunities to learn, explore, and enjoy the beautiful outdoor environment that Little Fort has to offer.”

Following the dedication and speeches there was a barbecue hosted by the TNRD and Little Fort Recreation Society.
