Veronica Williams fell in love after seeing a post on social media, but it’s not what you might think.
On Christmas Day last year, Williams saw a post from the Clearwater Humane Society stating that someone had passed away and left behind two dogs who needed care.
“I didn’t have anything planned and decided why not take them in until we could find them a home,”she explains. “So I took in Bullet and his sibling Remmington. The only thing I really know about Bullet is that he is about four years old.”
After the dogs were neutured one of them found his forever home: people who have a large acreage in the valley. On March 8 they picked up Remi, but Bullet stayed with Williams, who had become his person.
“I kept Bullet because he’s attached himself to me and I to him. He’s my buddy. He comes to work with me and everything. You can tell when you are a dog’s person.”
Williams works for School District #73 in a newly-created position, doing maintenance and asbestos abatement between Barriere and Blue River. The position was created because of a new law that says the only people who can remove asbestos are WorkSafe-certified individuals. She has been certified for two years, and lives on a nice property that she has fenced to accommodate foster dogs and, of course, Bullet. It has a large yard and is close to walking trails near North Thompson Park: “We are so lucky to have so many trails we can walk with the dogs.”
She finds the fostering to be a “very rewarding experience” and says “I can’t wait till I get the next foster.”
She hopes that others who hear about her positive experience being someone who fosters dogs, will become interested in learning more and either consider doing the same, donate some food for the animals, or think about adopting if they are looking for their special dog companion.
“I want to help get the word out and get some exposure about the Clearwater Humane Society, whether that is encouraging people to foster or donate a bag of food or even adopt a dog. Anything.”
