Cowboy Church returns to the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair this year.

Rick Hugh, 1st vice-president of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association, said the non-denominational service is set for Sunday morning (May 18). The service, to begin at 10 a.m., will be held in the Lasso Lounge after the pancake breakfast.

"They have lots of great music—unlike the day when I'd go, and you'd have the church choir all in their robes—this is typically electric guitar, bass, drums and very upbeat music," Hugh said. "For a lot of the cowboys and cowgirls, and in the cowboy culture, church is a big deal. So, we get some competitors and other rodeo officials coming out for Cowboy Church too."

Mark Davis, from the B.C. Fire Chaplains will once again lead the service.

According to an entry on cloverdalerodeo.com, Davis is a pastor, firefighter, and chaplain with the Township of Langley Fire Department.

“He shares a message of faith, hope, and resilience rooted in real life and God’s Word,” the entry notes. “With a heart for the community, (Davis) is passionate about walking with people through every season. Come in your western wear and enjoy a welcoming, uplifting worship experience.”

The Lasso Lounge will be located at the east side of the rec centre parking lot, just east of the food court area.

"If you haven't experienced Cowboy Church, it really is unique," noted Hugh. "I’m sure it will be well-attended.”
