Clearwater RCMP responded to 54 calls for service this past week.
On Saturday July 22, at 2:14 p.m. a 57 year old Kamloops man called the Clearwater RCMP to report a hit and run at the Vavenby General Store.
The man said that a male driving an older black GMC pickup backed into his 1988 Porsche 928 and then sped off toward Hwy. 5 at a high rate of speed.
Liquor containers were falling out of the pickup as it fled. The driver was in his 50s or 60s, 5’-8” with neat grey hair and grey beard.
Damage to the Porsche was a cracked rear bumper and tail light. Video surveillance from the store is not very clear but shows the collision.
Many Vavenby residents watched the video and said the vehicle was not local.
Const. Klassen spoke to pipeline workers in the area as well as a CVSE officer and no one had observed the black pickup leaving the area. Photos obtained by the Porsche owner. Extensive patrols were conducted by Const. Klassen without success. This incident is still under investigation.
On Sunday, July 23 at 10:48 p.m., Clearwater RCMP received a call from an Edmonton woman advising her car had just been backed into at the a local motel.
A male in a nearby room had knocked on their door and told them so. They went out to find the drivers door panel dented in and the mirror broken off, window smashed.
The male had provided insurance paperwork, but refused to show them his driver’s licence. Const. Van Woudenberg attended and met with the woman and the other owner-driver, who was from Vulcan, Alberta, outside in the parking lot where they showed him the car.
They also showed him the truck that had hit it, a blue 2020 Ford F350 pickup. Photos of both vehicles were obtained and Const. Van Woudenberg attended the room of the male who provided his driver’s licence, identifying him as the driver and registered owner of the F350.
Evenson advised he pulled in and in the dark of the parking lot, didn’t see the car until he ran into it. No indication of alcohol or drug use noted while speaking with the male. An accident report was completed and provided to both parties and emailed to ICBC.
