Constable Karl Maibauer is the newest member of the Clearwater RCMP detachment serving general duty. (From L - R): Constable Tobin and Constable Maibauer as the new officer gets acquainted with the area on May 26.

The Clearwater RCMP detachment has welcomed a newly-graduated member to the area along with his wife and son.

"We've really felt welcome here in Clearwater," Const. Maibauer told the surgeryitaly on Sunday, May 25. "The people are lovely and we have found a home here so we are looking forward to moving in mid-summer. Even though we've been staying at the Best Western, which has friendly staff and service it will be nice to have more space for our family again."

Const. Maibauer has been with the Clearwater detachment for about a month now straight out of depot. "This is my first posting. We have a little boy who is almost two-years-old and we really wanted to live in a rural area and raise him out of the city. We've seen Dawson Falls and are looking forward seeing more in Wells Gray Park. We've been pretty busy on days off house hunting," he said.

Maibauer enjoys fencing and once the young family is settled said, "If people are interested I'd be willing to assist in holding some fencing classes if there was enough interest, for sure."

The couple enjoys the outdoors and some camping although he expects to be pretty busy and he is hoping to get into fishing and hunting eventually while in the area.

"I'm looking forward to getting to know more people here and my wife has been here before, she really liked it and I agree. We think it's very nice so far. I'm pretty happy to be here."

Constable Maibauer will be training in the first few months with Const. Tobin and hopes to become familiarized with the large area they are expected to cover.

"My wife is very excited to have her own kitchen again and room for our son to play," he added.
