The annual Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department’s (CVFD) Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday, March 29 attracted a great crowd of egg seekers. The hunting grounds were around the Clearwater Fire Hall where kids armed with baskets, buckets and bags scooped up sweet chocolate and candy-coated loot.

The Easter Bunny had been pretty creative this year hiding all of the treats for the many kids and their families to track down, starting out in the fire hall, trucks and gear. Volunteer firefighters were on hand to help out, of course, and the air was filled with the yummy smell of the barbecue cooking up hamburgers and hotdogs, making sure no one went away hungry.

The grill masters were volunteer firefighter Chance Breckenridge and fire captain Wayne Wysoski, who had some laughs together as they cooked up the burgers and dogs and warmed the buns. CVFD fire chief Mike Smith manned the megaphone as the hunters got ready to dash for the treats hidden around the fire hall and trucks. Clearwater Village Road was closed for a brief time to ensure everyone’s safety and allowed for safe passage between the fire hall and Chad Schapansky Memorial Park which is located across the road from the hall, where more goodies were hidden to be collected.

Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department chief, Mike Smith asked for a moment of silence to honour fallen firefighter, Chad Schapansky on March 29 at the end of the days activities. Schapansky passed away tragically in the line of duty 20 years ago. A ground breaking ceremony followed the Easter Egg Hunt at the park across from the fire-hall bearing Schapansky’s name which will be soon equipped with new playground equipment in his memory.
